Meet Gary Richardson

Candidate for Liberty County Sheriff.

 

I was born and raised in Hinesville by my parents, Chuck and Linda “Strickland” Richardson. My father was a disabled Vietnam veteran, who also served 27 years in law enforcement with the Hinesville Police Department and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. My mother has worked 40+ years in civil service at Fort Stewart. Most of my extended family are life-long residents of Liberty County.

I have been a certified Peace Officer in the State of Georgia for the past 31 years. During that time, I served as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff R.V. Sikes, Sheriff J. Don Martin, and Sheriff Steve Sikes at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. During my time with the Sheriff’s Office, I worked patrol, narcotics, Special Deputy US Marshal for the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force, Special Response Team (SRT), and School Resource Officer (SRO) at Liberty County High School. During my time as an SRO, I also served as an assistant football coach under the late Coach Kirk Warner. I also served under Chiefs Harlan Deloach and George Stagmeier at the Hinesville Police Department.

I obtained my Basic Peace Officer Certification from the Georgia Police Academy in December of 1991. Since that time, I have obtained my Field Training Officer, Intermediate, and Supervisory Certifications. I wanted to increase my skill set to better serve the community, so I decided to further my education. In 2017, I graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and in 2021, I graduated with a Juris Masters in American Legal Studies.

From the beginning of my career in law enforcement, my goal was to become Sheriff of Liberty County. I feel that my knowledge of the community, my experience in law enforcement, and my education make me uniquely qualified to be Sheriff. I promise to be a Sheriff that is accessible to the citizens and dedicated to the betterment of the community.
